So, as a continuation from yesterday's endeavor, I bring you today's farm report. This morning, Kouryou-chan and I made homemade muffins...from a recipe that needs to be rewritten. The person who wrote it included sugar in the ingredients list, but not in the instructions; it's only because I am well-versed in muffinry that I knew where the sugar needed to go. Pumpkin-carrot muffins, and very yummy they were. I'll rewrite it correctly and post it sometime soon.
After breakfast it was onto indoor chores..like vacuuming, clothes washing, tidying, and the like. So it was actually after lunch, around three, that I got outside. I wanted to get back to mowing, but didn't end up there. Most of my work was with the compost bin. I filled the third 20 gallon trash bucket we had with compost, then broke up the remaining compost in the bin, since there was enough left to serve as the base for this year. Then it was off to the leaves in the front yard to fill the bin. I put three wheelbarrows worth of leaves into the bin and still had enough leaves left for a hefty jumping pile for Kouryou and Yamaarashi. Heh.
I was filling the last 20 gallon bucket when
elfs came home, and he helped me find trash bags of compost we had lying around still from last years haul. The plastic buckets are a better place. So now we have *lots* of compost, and if you would like some, let me know and you can have it free. There will just be a deposit for the bucket (if you take the whole bucket's worth) since we'll want the bucket back.
Then we set to for a short bit on some weeds near the shed. They are taking over an area that we covered with a tarp last year when we dealt with the garden wall, and the grass all died.
And Kouryou-chan was just the best little helper all day. I guess she wanted to make up for not doing anything yesterday when she was sick. She tidied her room, made her lunch, helped me with the compost bin and gathering the leaves to put into the bin, and helped pull the weeds. A big giant hug to my little girl!
