Getting to know our new neighbors
Jul. 4th, 2005 11:59 pmSome of you have been reading
elfs's journal, and if so, you are familiar with our new neighbors. It's been less than a week, and we've already had two instances that have convinced us that they will not end up being good neighbors (one of which I will probably blog about in a little more detail later.)
And now another instance. That's two in one day even. This evening, Elf and I are coming home with Kouryou-chan after having seen the big professional show with
j5nn5r and
shastaw in Des Moines. We get up to the end of the street that leads into our street but can go no further...because there are a bunch of people blocking the way into our little lane and blocking the last twenty or so feet of the road that it leads off of shooting off some extensive fireworks. They are our new neighbors and their friends.
Now, there are two very important things to mention here.
1. It is illegal to shoot off fireworks in Burien (where we live) without a permit. And as far as I know, only two professional shows in all of Burien were granted a permit (it said so on the Burien city website).
2. The woman who lives in what Elf and I affectionately call "the compound" across the street from us actually had to call the fire department last year when she was setting off fireworks that weren't nearly so extensive...and set the bushes just outside of her fence on fire.
I wasn't going to wait for another call to the fire department. I have already called the police. I don't really expect them to show up before these guys are done (although its just minutes shy of midnight and they don't show any signs of letting up...did I mention they have littles in the age of 3 and 4 in their group...so who knows.) But I'm not going to have something near, or even on, my property set on fire because these people have about as much sense as a turnip.
