Vacuum Update

There's a Dexter's Laboratory episode called Repairinoid, in which Dexter's lab pulls so much electricity from the house that a fuse blows. Mom calls an electrician, and hilarity ensues. During the episode, Mom is constantly talking about needing help with "manly" chores, and when she does, her husband shows up decked accordingly for the job. Her response is always to say, "Not you, dear."

Oh, how I wish I had said that about the vacuum cleaner. Instead, I allowed Elf to "fix" the vacuum cleaner. The result? We just got it back today. It cost us $170 ($40 more than the original quote, btw, a separate thing I'm pissed off about). That's $65 for the part that I had accurately predicted needed to be fixed (and we could have purchased and fixed for that amount), $10 for the part that Elf fried, and $95 for labor.

I think I will take Dexter's Mom's advice next time. "Not you, dear."
